National History Museums of Los Angeles County
Natural History Museum of Los Angeles
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, with over 35 million specimens spanning 4.5 billion years, is key to local and global scientific research and education. Bluecadet worked closely with NHMLA to develop a cohesive digital design system, content strategy, and platform to support the many important functions of this legendary institution.
Restructuring a Content Ecosystem
The L.A.’s Natural History Museum, La Brea Tar Pits, and William S. Hart Museum are part of one organization. We were tasked with unifying these institutions to provide accessible and engaging experiences for the people of L.A. County.
Beyond integrating the three locations, the site also unites 35 domains and blogs, centralizing content streams into one user-friendly digital home.
Optimized for Events
L.A.'s Natural History Museum offers diverse events like exhibit openings, educational programs, family activities, member previews, public lectures, seasonal festivals, after-hours events, nature walks, and community outreach programs, ensuring engaging experiences for all ages.
The NHMLA website is optimized to connect visitors with interesting, relevant, and actionable experiences. We created an integrated calendar and event system, organizing timely content to make it easier to plan and attend both in-person and virtual events.
Museum as Publisher
The previous NHMLA website focused on marketing, neglecting the wealth of stories, videos, and knowledge from their world-class staff. We collaborated with various departments to improve workflows and create content that connects meaningfully with the NHMLA community.
Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga, President and Director, NHMLA,We do something extraordinary onsite and out in the community—we connect past with present, science, nature and culture with people, and L.A. with the world. That’s not easy to represent digitally, but I believe this new site reflects what sets us apart and will be an engaging resource for the general public and the scientific community alike.
