We are seeking an innovative Tech Director of Web Development to join our dynamic studio. We are looking for someone who is deeply passionate about the intersection of web design, development, and storytelling and who is eager to lead in shaping the future of web experiences for our clients.
As Tech Director, you’ll be at the core of Bluecadet’s web development processes, collaborating across our design, narrative, and development disciplines. You’ll work closely with clients, developers, designers, project managers, and our leadership team to drive creative solutions from concept to deployment.
This role is a senior leader on the team that owns and advocates for the web development discipline. This person will refine and standardize the studio’s development process, ensure our high bar is met, continuously introduce the latest technologies, and guide web project roadmaps and architecture. You’ll provide leadership across development and cross-functional teams, managing full-time and freelance developers as well as contributing to business development and the future of web strategy at Bluecadet.
As the Tech Director of Web Development you’ll
- Build and sustain an inclusive development team, mentoring and managing full-time employees and contractors.
- Owning and improving the studio’s development processes, from environment setup and CI/CD to board automations and JIRA vs. Github systems.
- Estimating and strategizing for business development, including contributing to new business pitches and proposals that bring in new and exciting work to the studio.
- Overseeing studio wide web project architecture and system design to ensure consistency across platforms and projects.
- Lead technical documentation, oversee technical architecture, proactively identify risks and work with teams to rightsize projects.
- Cultivating a culture of research, experimentation, and high-quality web experiences.
- Collaborate and lead discussions with other discipline-leads to redefine processes, systems and designs to inform project scopes and timelines.
- Provide leadership in account and project management by contributing to web strategy, roadmaps, and client support.
- Representing the studio externally at conferences, talks, and panels as a thought leader.
Education and Experience:
- 10+ years of professional experience in web development, with technical project and product management.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- Expertise in multiple programming languages and frameworks, including PHP, JavaScript, and DevOps, with deep experience in third-party integrations such as NetX, TMS, Middleware.
- Expertise in CMS systems like Drupal (including migrations, security, upgrades) and WordPress as well as headless CMS like Sanity and Craft
- Hands-on programming experience and technical project management.
- Leadership and people management experience, including managing developers and interfacing with cross-functional teams (Design, Content, Development).
