Too Young To Wed
End Child Marriage
Visit siteLET GIRLS BE GIRLS
One out of three girls in the developing world is married before she turns 18, often to an older man, and typically without her consent. The results can be devastating. The girls are often removed from school, limiting their options for the future. Early pregnancies put them and their children at much greater risk of death or disability. In marriage, these girls often lose any semblance of control over their lives, bodies, ambitions, health, and future.
To mark the inaugural International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2012, the United Nations Population Fund is partnering with VII Photo to launch a global exhibition and movement to raise awareness about child marriage, help girls who are already married and ultimately, to end the practice forever. The UNFPA sponsored the Too Young to Wed website, featuring photography by Stephanie Sinclair and video by Jessica Dimmock.
Stephanie Sinclair, a founding member of VII Photo and a world renowned crisis photographer, has dedicated much of her career to this complex and sensitive issue. Having collaborated with Bluecadet on Starved for Attention with Doctors Without Borders, Stephanie approached Bluecadet to a create a website that would engage emotionally and intellectually. Bluecadet worked closely with Stephanie to understand the issue and develop a strategy that would serve the cause. Accordingly, we developed a brand identity for Too Young To Wed, a rich and immersive website, and a pragmatic social media strategy.
The site further features a video by Jessica Dimmock produced by Union HZ.
