Terror Behind the Walls
Eastern State Penitentiary
Visit siteAn Interactive Tour Through a Massive Haunted House Inside a Real Prison
Though often cited as the best haunted attraction in America, Terror Behind the Walls is much more than a haunted house. To start, Terror takes place in Eastern State Penitentiary, a National Historic Site and the nation's first true penitentiary. Within these dark stone walls such renowned criminals as Al Capone and Willy Sutton spent many days and dark nights. The site is renown for being haunted and is the subject of numerous documentaries focusing on the paranormal. This history and architecture is put to good use during the Halloween season when over a hundred and twenty actors armed with meticulous make-up and elaborate props put on a frightening spectacle for tens of thousands of visitors.
In conjunction with the redesign of Eastern State Penitentiary's site, Bluecadet was asked to build a site that would capture the fun and excitement of Terror Behind the Walls. We were thrilled. We began by restructuring the site, making it easier to use, navigate and to plan a visit. Next the design was completely reworked, photographs taken at the site were incorporated into the design. We produced seven promotional videos. One video was designed for the front page and to be easily distributable via youTube. The other videos are served up in a rich interactive 3D environment. The 3D model was painstakingly crafted based on 19th century architectural schematics and present day aerial photography.
