Bluecadet Interactive

For the website Energy Realties, National Geographic Maps asked Bluecadet to create a series of highly interactive info-graphics and maps to explore the history, current state, and future of energy usage, demand and dependency.

Bluecadet worked closely with the client to interpret complex data sets on a range of issues from Global Population Densities, Fossil Fuel Reserves and Bio-Fuel Production. Faced with a series of imposing spreadsheets, we set to work. After much formulating, sketching, and prototyping, we designed a range of easy to use, visually rich, and highly interactive info-graphics.

National Geographic wanted the info-graphics to function on the iPad. No Flash, no problem. We dove into the latest JavaScript libraries and frameworks, leveraging JQuery, Raphael.js, JQPlot, custom JavaScript and even SVG to make the interactive work across browsers and devices. Users can even pinch and drag the controls on the iPad.

Importantly, the data--which is deep and complex-- is made clear, palatable and beautiful; a lot better than digging through some boring spreadsheets.
