MoMA's Diego Rivera exhibit gets an added layer

MoMA’s upcoming exhibition “Diego Rivera: Murals for The Museum of Modern Art” features eight superb “portable murals” by Rivera. Bluecadet created a striking website to accompany and augment the MoMA’s physical installations. The microsite features the murals themselves in exquisite detail, allowing users to zoom in close, exploring annotations of select focal spots. Even though it's built using jQuery, the site lets visitors dive into each mural smoothly, in ways only Flash used to be able to achieve.

Users can pull back the curtain to reveal the sketches and materials used to create the celebrated murals, discovering process images that reveal the method of creation, artistry, and planning that went into the works. The site presents the history and timeline of Rivera’s life and work, an interactive map of Rivera's New York that displays location alongside each in-depth mural, and educational videos of the artist himself.

Each physical mural in the museum will be accompanied by a QR code which directs scanners to the microsite on their handheld devices. Since it was created using JavaScript, the site is fully mobile compatible, giving it flash-like interactivity that looks beautiful on an iPad or iPhone.

Bluecadet created this sleek and educational site for MoMA’s talented Department of Digital Media.
