The American Revolution Center brings history front and center by engaging and teaching

The American Revolution Center is building The Museum of the American Revolution–the first national museum dedicated to telling the complete story of the American Revolution. Bluecadet designed the Center’s website in 2009, creating both an online presence and an immersive interactive timeline that showcased their collection of artifacts.

The Center loved the website, but in 2011 decided it was time for a few changes. They wanted to draw more attention to the nation-wide survey they had commissioned about adult knowledge of the American Revolution  and encourage visitors to take the survey  online. Bluecadet  made the survey interactive, allowing users to answer questions, see results and compare their answers to other users' responses. There's a dynamically updating infographic that shows the results of the survey as users are taking it, and the questions are downloadable for teachers and educators.

Since the main goal of the organization is to bring awareness to the American Revolution, Bluecadet created visually and intellectually engaging ways to help users learn online. There's a searchable database for educators to find lesson plans and resources, and dynamic rotating homepage images that feature the Center's promotional video and the survey. Of course, the site still features the interactive Flash timeline that lets visitors explore each artifact within the greater context of American history, with podcasts of curators explaining the artifact’s story.

Finally, it was important to the Center that they be able to administer the site themselves. We built a back end in Drupal 7; everything from the text to the animation of the complex rotating homepage images can be controlled by Center staff through a user-friendly content management system.
